There was two of us, we split an individual antipasto salad, small cheese bread and large pizza. It was all delicious, the restaurant makes you feel like you're going back in time. The wait staff is busy and attentive. We went Saturday night at 6:30 and it was a 45 minute wait, it was worth waiting. We had so much pizza and cheese bread left over and it reheats great! Large portions and the ranch is homemade, so delicious!
Great pizza. Some of the best in Detroit. Recommend both done in or carry out. Can't wait to get back there.
This place is iconic. I've only been here once, during Covid, and it was takeout so I wanted to give it another chance. I got a ginger ale and it tasted insanely weird, so I sent it back and got something else. My bf didn't like the pizza, he said it was undercooked but I personally think it's just on the doughier side which I like. Server was pretty nice, no complaints there. It sounds small but their bathroom is disgusting. Bad enough it's a single stall, but they also didn't have any hand soap, so they put an unsanitary bar of soap on the dirty counter. Door looks like it had been kicked in. I would come back, but probably takeout only. Also- no online ordering?! What year is it?
Hands down the best pizza, salad and bread in Detroit. Many places claim to have the best Detroit style, sadly none of them come even close to Louie's. The ambience and friendly staff also make it a worth while visit. If you have never been here plan on starting with their antipasto salad and cheese bread. Absolutely perfect mixture of cheese, meat, lettuce and the dressing is amazing. The cheese bread is perfectly baked with tons of that amazing cheese they use. You could make a meal out of those two alone but you came here for the pizza right? Well you won't be disappointed because it's truly amazing. I take all my coworkers and clients here when possible and every time they are blown away.
This pizza is delicious- dare I say one of the best in the Detroit area!! Outside of a classic salad I have never ordered anything else here so I cannot speak on the other menu items, however the pizza is so good I don't see why you would want anything else! This is a louder type restaurant, TV's playing and typically louder and more busy crowd- although the few times I've been here at dinner time I have not had to wait. The service was very efficient; I ordered salad and pizza and within a couple minutes salad was out and less than 10 minutes our entire pizza was ready too. Outside of the outstanding pizza, this place is pretty cute. I'm not sure if they still do this, but they used to allow you to write on and hang any large bottle you ordered on the wall, serving as a very cute and sentimental decoration.
I can't say enough good things about Loui's. Loui's was my last stop on what was a year-long goal of visiting all of the classic Detroit style pizza restaurants, which are trace ownership original to someone involved with Buddy's. It definitely wins my "Best Classic Detroit Style Pizza" award. To start, this place probably hasn't seen much of a renovation or upgrade since it opens, which certainly adds to the charm. It's covered with signed wine bottles from head to toe, with historic photos and articles, a fish tank behind the bar, and more adorning practically every open square inch of space. There's just so much character. I went with my standard pepperoni and mushroom, which I always order when it's my first time having pizza someplace. It came loaded with pepperoni (under the cheese as it should be) and A TON of cheese and generous dollops of sauce on top. The distribution was a bit uneven which led to some slices not being quite as good as nothers, but I instantly knew why so many poeple rave about Loui's. The place was absolutely packed and we had to wait for almost an hour, plus our service was a bit slow beacuse they were short staffed. However, they were doing the best they could and given the amazingness of the product, nobody seemed to mind at all. Loui's is an absolute classic. A blast from the past. It really doesn't get more Detroit than Loui's.
I am so glad I finally tried Loui's!!!! We started with the antipasto salad. It's one of the best salad dressings I've ever had!!!!! This salad is a must. We also ordered a small cheese bread which was not small at all, it was huge and very tasty! We of course got the pizza too and man was it cheesy!!! If you love a cheesy pizza this is for you. I loved my visit! The restaurant is adorable on the inside... so much charm. I will definitely be back.
Like or love Detroit style deep dish? You'll love this place. The pizza is so good, with crunchy cheesy edges that Detroit style edges. There's a reason this place is still so busy, has so many 5 star reviews and and has been around since 1954. Step back in time when come here, has that 50's/60's restaurant vibe with the pinkish glitter ceiling in the main dining room. We had the antipasto salad too. If you don't like a lot of dressing, you might want it on the side. We were celebrating my son's birthday, and our server brought us some ice cream for dessert too! Looking forward to going back!
After a four nap, I was ready to be fed again. What do you do for lunch when you're in Detroit? You get pizza. That's just what you do. I ordered from Loui's because it was only 10 mins from our place and they offered a small pizza. Paid over the phone with a credit card and they brought out the pizza to my fiancé's car. The pizza took about 25-30 mins to make. The edges of the crust was so crispy - loved it. It was not very saucy so if you like more sauce, ask for it. The pepperoni was placed directly on the crust, then cheese, other toppings and then finally the sauce. 100% recommend Loui's.
Loui's is a Detroit icon and it's not surprising why - they have the best classic Detroit style pizza, bar none. We stopped in for a Saturday lunch - the parking lot was almost full, but the restaurant was only maybe 1/5 capacity. We ordered quickly and got our pizza within 20-25 minutes. Cheese and Pepperoni, Large ($21.10) - Loui's does two things really well on their pizza. The crust and dough is by far the most well developed out of all the major classic Detroit-style places. Superb cheese crust on the edges, consistently crisp crust all throughout, including on the bottom of each slice. It's not oily tasting, just like a good focaccia bread has that crunch. The cheese in some parts is almost burnt - maybe a small hint of bitterness here and there, but is well worth the crisp. This is a testament to how well seasoned their pans are and their immaculate cooking process. In addition, the amount of delicious brick cheese they add to the pizza is almost excessive - way more than other places and makes for a great cheese pull. This results in a super decadent slice that will fill you up quickly - I normally can only eat 2 slices at max before I start feeling a little sick from being so full. Honestly, the pepperoni (underneath the cheese and sauce, of course) kind of gets lost in the amount of cheese added. They don't crisp up due to their location so the addition doesn't add any textural contrast. The only thing that isn't particularly special is the sauce - I believe most places use canned Stanislaus and add additional herbs/garlic. The sauce here doesn't taste like it's much different. It does add a nice sweet (not too sweet) and tangy note and is perfectly serviceable. If you're looking for a great classic Detroit-style pizza, Loui's is a must visit.
